Optimization of manufacturing processes to reduce well construction costs has been the main trend in recent years. It is impossible to achieve these goals without continuous development of new technologies and technical tools used to solve these tasks. For many years, a large share of developments in the sphere of process optimization and oil and gas equipment improvement at the Russian oilfield service market was represented by Western suppliers. After withdrawal from the market, ART-Osnastka became one of the leaders in development of new technologies and manufacturing of non-standard equipment for oil and gas well construction.
One of the effective tools for reducing well construction costs is minimizing the time spent on secondary operations, such as the installation of cement plugs. Existing methods for installing long-distance cement plugs (over 300 meters) are quite expensive and involve significant risks during execution. The technologies and supporting equipment currently available on the market for these operations do not fully support the installation of high-capacity cement plugs in a single tripping operation. They are associated with risks such as the sticking of the work string, mixing of cement slurry with wellbore fluids during pulling of the string, and, as a result, failure to place the cement plug within the designated interval.
Having carefully studied the above-mentioned issues, ART-Osnastka JSC developed and successfully conducted bench tests of a disconnecting tool for the installation of high-capacity cement plugs, type 1200.
